Alice Faye

Alice Faye loved her daughters and grandchildren, and she loved fishing!  She believed in being comfortable and living simply. This particular day her and her daughter Tab had the best day fishing even tho they never caught a fish. I couldn't resist painting her with her floppy hat, worn overalls, and fishing rag! Got a Light?

It is no secret that I love everything about the beach. If I listed everything that I loved about the beach, I would probably bore you. Sea gulls seem to have personality and this one just seems to have a story. A friend of mine took this photo and graciously allowed me to use it in this painting. I had so much fun painting him, I think I will do it again! This is a watercolor using MaimeriBlu paints on #300 lb. paper. I love painting white areas with a lot of color and I think shadows should be as interesting as the rest of the subject matter. Bet this painting will end up being a workshop in the near future.

FW Wonderful Day on the Water

FW acrylic inks made by the Daler-Rowney company are soooooooo addictive! I used them like watercolors in this painting and probably painted this as fast as I have ever painted anything. Used white, Rowney blue, and dark green.

Old doors to an old store in Swansboro, NC. I wonder how many storms those doors have weathered? Who has stepped through those doors or just walked by without noticing. Don't you just love the patina left  by the salt air and sun?! Painted with MaimeriBlu paints on watercolor paper.

remember to play

The simplest toys provide hours of fun. Just add children young and old, water and sand. The beach is one place you see adults remembering how to play. This is Daler Rowney FW acrylic inks on gesso.

I love to paint sunflowers and hisbiscus. Guess its the strong colors and the very size of the flower. They are easy to find this time of year in NC. This is a watercolor I have prepared to teach in a class.

double hats

My husband took this picture of lady walking down the waterfront beaches of Southport, NC. She appeared to be thinking and hunting shells. I'm not sure why she had on two hats. Maybe the second hat was prettier. This might be me one day but without the hats. I look like a sawed off mushroom in a hat. Just to put one on causes someone in my family to laugh hysterically.
