Strawberry Red

I am just not sure their could be a better tasting fruit than strawberries. Wait a minute. I love blueberries and blackberries. Oh yeah, peaches can make you smile too! Strawberries are beautiful and come at just the right time of year. They look like a celebration in just about any vessel and how can you eat one without smiling? Painted with MaimeriBlu watercolors on watercolor paper.

Mama's Yellow Butterfly

My dear friend was downcast on the second anniversary of her Mom's passing. When her Mom was living, often in conversation, her Mom would say to  her: "there goes a yellow butterfly". On this particular anniversary my friend was riding down the road with a co-worker when she saw a massive parade of yellow butterflies. She blinked and thought that maybe she was the only one that could see them. Her co-worker said: "I see them too"! Painted with Daler Rowney Acrylics on canvas.

Gidden's Clock

There was a jewelry store in the old part of the town of Goldsboro NC called Gidden's Jewelry. This ornate clock bearing their name is still in front of this building listed in the National Register of Historical places. A law firm occupies the building now and this building is actually for sale.

Water Tower Town

I have looked for our town's water tower in lights every year. Why in the world did it not occur to me to paint it before now? A long time friend generously sent me pictures of the tower in lights. His father was a Goldsboro policeman and as a child, he occasionly was allowed to turn on the Christmas lights.

Sea Hop

Every time we go to Beaufort, NC, we turn right toward the waterfront. My husband suddenly turned left, saying we always turn right. Well, we found water on the left side too! We saw people that appeared to be living on their humble boats. I just couldn't take my eyes off of them and decided they had to be painted. Sea Hop is the first one I have painted. Trailers by the Sea is the name I am calling this series of paintings. Their homes are humble, but their "yards" are just divine. Painted with MaimeriBlu watercolors on watercolor paper.

Marsh and Sky

You are not suppose to stop on top of the bridge! If no one is coming you can go real slooooow and take a picture. Sometimes after a rainy day you can catch the most inspiring sunset over the bridge to Oak Island, NC. Painted with MaimeriBlu paints on watercolor paper.

Java Jones

Acrylic paint and a palette knife. Must have changed my mind three times about the color of this cup. This is a small 8 X 10 I did especially to hang at The Flying Pig Coffee Shop across from the Food Lion in Oak Island, NC. They will have my pieces up for the month of May and June. Palette knife keeps it loose! Painted with Daler Rowney Acrylics on canvas.

Summer Breeze

There is nothing like a summer breeze, sound of gulls and waves on a hot summer day in North Carolina. Its my happy place! How do you like a white umbrella with plenty of color? This painting was done with the FW inks from Daler Rowney. It and others will be on display at the Flying Pig for the months of May and June at Oak Island, NC.

McCarthy

This is a commissioned piece I painted with Daler Rowney FW inks. My client was thrilled with the piece and I throughly enjoyed painting the elephant. I always learn something new when I do commissioned pieces. I learned that the curled up trunk of an elephant is a symbol of good luck.

Alice Faye

Alice Faye loved her daughters and grandchildren, and she loved fishing!  She believed in being comfortable and living simply. This particular day her and her daughter Tab had the best day fishing even tho they never caught a fish. I couldn't resist painting her with her floppy hat, worn overalls, and fishing rag! Painted with MaimeriBlu paints on watercolor paper.

Got a Light?

It is no secret that I love everything about the beach. If I listed everything that I loved about the beach, I would probably bore you. Sea gulls seem to have personality and this one just seems to have a story. A friend of mine took this photo and graciously allowed me to use it in this painting. I had so much fun painting him, I think I will do it again! This is a watercolor using MaimeriBlu paints on #300 lb. paper. I love painting white areas with a lot of color and I think shadows should be as interesting as the rest of the subject matter. Bet this painting will end up being a workshop in the near future.
