Wishes come true

There is a coffee shop (Mill Town Java) near me that my family frequents often. The family that owns it has become dear to us. They had an old oak pub table that I just loved. I asked them to let me purchase it many times. They said they would think about it when they had a replacement. I use to call it my table! One summer about 3 years ago, I saw a similar table with a compass rose painted on the table top. If I could have thrown a fit and got that table, it would have been worth it. It was a very expensive table as things can be at the beach. A girl can always wish! One day at the coffee store my friend came up to me and said they had a replacement table and they were gifting the pub table to me. I almost had a good fit right there. I was so excited. I refinished the table and painted my own compass rose with Daler-Rowney FW inks. I love it and that family is going to join us at this table for dinner.

Finest Pick

Always amazed that the most beautiful flowers come from a seed in the dark. These flowers bloomed out of a plethora of paint! I used FW inks and they are notorious for mixing well together.

Last Nerve

Everyone has a last nerve. If we could only see the humor in it at the time, the release would be laughter. This is an FW acrylic ink pour using my hammer. 

Campfire

Trying some new techniques with my Daler-Rowney FW inks! I was so excited how well this turned out. I'm not much on camping, but I enjoy an outdoor fire under the stars.

Tranquil

The kind of quiet that washes your insides. I think this kind of quiet would be good for anyone, especially near the water. 

This is a 10 x 14 on watercolor paper using Daler-Rowney FW Acrylic Inks and System 3 Acrylic Inks. 

Indigo

I have yet to see a blue starfish except in my imagination. I named this one "Indigo" because I wanted to paint a navy blue starfish! Indigo is the name of the Daler Rowney FW Acrylic Ink I used and also the System 3 Acrylic Ink in Titanium White. I painted three starfish in three beachy colors.

Third Season

Who doesn't love the third season of the year with comfortable temperatures. Normal landscapes look picturesque with the riot of colors against clear blue skies. If I have painted one leaf, I have painted hundreds! My favorite, the FW inks, is the best way to paint fall leaves. This is painted with the new Daler Rowney System 3 Acrylic Inks. 

Keep it Salty

I can pick up a starfish for a little bit. Forget about an earthworm or snake! The starfish has to be in a salty environment always. I totally get that! Salt water and salt air is a must for me too! This is an original 6 X 6 painted with Georgian oil on cradled gesso board.

One of my best friends loves rain and mermaids! I use to take cover from the rain. Now I try to hold my head up to the sky and embrace the rain like she does. This painting is from an overflow of love for her!

Old Red

When I walk on the beach, I am usually picking up shells. Walking in the mountains, I usually pick up rocks and leaves. Old Red had seen better days, but it was just beautiful against the twigs and  older leaves of fall. This is a 5.5 x 7 painted with MaimeriBlu watercolors on YUPO paper.

Hanging On

I sometimes wake up in the morning with a painting on my mind. This particular morning I woke up with its title on my mind. Soon I was thinking about what it would look like. I already knew I was giving it to a friend. On a recent trip to the mountains of North Carolina, I encountered the thickest fog. The trees looked other worldly, and its leaves were all but gone. It is not a familiar site for me and I could hardly look at it enough. The title of the painting prompted me to leave one leaf hanging on. The painting medium is FW Acrylic Inks on Heritage watercolor paper.

Strata

Strata is a 9 X 12 oil painting using a palette knife. It abstractly represents Arizona and the colors are various reds and corals, and blues and greens. It was too much fun to paint! I used Georgian Water Mixable Oils on Canson Art Board.

Shelf Life

Shelf Life is a 6 X 8 painted with MaimeriBlu watercolors of a vintage Ball Ideal canning jar. Mine were never this pretty. Now I go to the grocery store to stock up, wipe my brow, and pretend I have been canning all day!

Force of Nature

Force of Nature is a 14 x 10 watercolor of the old gnarly, live oak trees found on the North Carolina coast. Sometimes they look like they have been dancing! The salt and wind has made them beautiful in their imperfections. They really are noticeable, silhouetted in the last rays of the sun. The colors are rich and warm. The painting feels quiet and reflective. Painted on 300# watercolor paper using MaimeriBlu watercolors.

Deep Blue

Deep Blue is a sea turtle painted with MaimeriBlu watercolors. I used blues, greens, and violets instead of the real colors of brown, greens, and grays. As a North Carolina native, I catch a glimpse of them every great once in a while in the ocean. I am always surprised by how big they are!

Apache

Crowing and strutting around the place, this rooster seemed to demand my attention. He lives at a roadside attraction called Fort Apache in Supply, NC. Words are hard to find that would describe this unique place. The owner, Dale Varnam, is the kindest person you could meet. Even Mike and Frank of the tv show "American Pickers" had to check it out for themselves!

Buoy #2

It's a new perspective from a boat on the water! This buoy might be an orange dot in the water from the town of Southport, NC. Up close it is battered and rough. Of course, I never saw the reflective #2 or the algae growing on its base. It is painted on 300 lb Arches watercolor paper with MaimeriBlu watercolors. Tripple Dip

This is a 6 x 12 acrylic on panel of peach, black cherry, and chocolate ice-cream on a cone. Every thing goes with chocolate!

Whale's Tongue

Whale's Tongue is a common name for this Agave plant. I see them at the beach and I just love the shadows the leaves cast. Of course I pushed the colors and shapes of light and shadow. This is a 12 x 9 original, painted with Daler Rowney FW acrylic ink on watercolor paper.

Celebrate Summer is a 16 x 20 original acrylic painting. I used the Daler Rowney Cryla Artist acrylics with a palette knife This is super thick buttery paint and so much fun to use.  I am most excited by the carnival atmosphere of flowers in the background.
